About this class
This class is a focused deep dive into the Kuk Sool Won syllabus, with a strong emphasis on forms and weapons training. It is designed for students who want to move beyond the learning phase and start refining the details that separate good practice from excellent practice.
The class is suitable for all ranks. Beginners and white belts are also welcome and can begin learning foundational weapons skills, such as staff and sword basics, ahead of when these are formally introduced in their syllabus.
What to expect
This is a highly technical class where we unapologetically analyse every stance, strike, and transition within our forms. The goal is not speed or volume, but precision, consistency, and understanding.
You will be taught how to critically assess your own performance, identify areas for improvement, and how to train your forms so that you continually improve. This class encourages a mindset of constant refinement and striving for the highest possible standard.
Weapons training is also a key component of this class. We cover weapons suitable for all ranks, focusing on safe, respectful weapon handling and fundamental skills.
The class is usually split roughly 50/50 between forms and weapons, although from time to time we may place more emphasis on one or the other depending on the focus of the session.
The topics we often cover in this class include:
- Detailed analysis of stances, posture, and transitions within forms.
- Self critique and peer feedback to develop a sharper technical eye.
- Weapons fundamentals, including staff, sword and jool-bong (nunchaku) basics.
- Refinement of rank specific weapons material for more advanced students.
