About this class
This class is designed primarily for beginners and those new to Kuk Sool Won, but all ranks are welcome if they wish to revisit and strengthen their fundamentals. It provides a structured and supportive environment focused on building strong foundations in stances, strikes, breakfalls, fundamental joint locks, forms and self defence techniques.
No prior martial arts experience is required. Everything is taught step by step, with plenty of guidance and time to learn at your own pace.
If it is your first class, bring loose fitting clothes similar to what you would wear to the gym and something to drink. We have a changing area available if needed.
What to expect
This class focuses on learning the fundamentals of martial arts training in a clear and accessible way. The emphasis is on good movement, correct technique, and understanding how and why things work, rather than rushing or trying to keep up.
Experienced practitioners will also recognise the value of regularly returning to fundamentals, as long term progress is built on continually refining the basics.
The topics we often cover in this class include:
- Basic stances, footwork, and posture to help you move with balance and control.
- Fundamental kicks and hand strikes, learning how to generate power safely and efficiently.
- Introductory falling and rolling skills to help you move confidently and protect yourself during training.
- Forms, called hyung in Kuk Sool Won, to develop coordination, focus, and flow.
- Beginner techniques such as joint locks and escapes, introduced in a safe and progressive way.
This class is an ideal starting point for new students and a valuable refresher for more experienced practitioners looking to sharpen their fundamentals.
